ELGON CHILD WATCH INITIATIVES UGANDA

Elgon Child Watch Initiatives–Uganda (ECWI UG) was established in 2015 by a team of committed youths determined to create positive and lasting change in the lives of vulnerable children across Uganda. From the beginning, the organization has been driven by a strong belief that empowering children and strengthening families plays a direct role in building safer, healthier, and more productive communities.

Founded by Wadudu Ambrose, a graduate of Makerere University, ECWI UG was born out of a vision to create a society where every child thrives, feels protected, and has equal access to opportunities. The organization initially focused on child protection and education, working hand in hand with communities to address risks faced by children in vulnerable and hard-to-reach areas.

As the organization grew, ECWI UG expanded its interventions to embrace a broader, holistic approach to child and community development. This shift was guided by the understanding that children flourish best in stable, resilient, and empowered families and communities. Over time, ECWI UG has evolved into a dynamic force responding to multiple, interconnected challenges affecting child wellbeing.

The organization emerged in response to the increasing prevalence of serious child rights violations such as forced and early marriages, unsafe abortions, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), sexual abuse, physical abuse, child exploitation, child labor, and trafficking. Recognizing the urgency and complexity of these challenges, ECWI UG has dedicated itself to long-term solutions rooted in community awareness, strong child protection structures, and targeted intervention programs.

Today, ECWI UG implements community-centered programs, advocacy initiatives, and protection interventions across Uganda, with a special focus on the Elgon sub region. The organization actively serves the districts of Sironko, Manafwa, Mbale, Bukedea, Bulambuli, Bududa, Namisindwa, Mbale City, Budaka, Kapchorwa, Kween, and Bukwo.
