Pamoja Theater was started as a participatory theater mainly focusing on “Theater of the Oppressed” . Soon we extended our work beyond the field of education, and beyond Forum Theater as the only available technique. In 2008, the extension “Workplace for Participatory Drama and Dance Therapy” was added. We decided to do this to emphasize two things. First, we want to be a company where working with the oppressed, marginalized, hopeless, HIV/AIDS victims and other health related diseases comes first where by new techniques are developed and passed on like Empowerment and Development of people and Communities through using Theater. Second, we wanted to draw attention to the term “participatory”. Participation involves the voice of the participants. It is not the educational value of Show more the drama techniques that stands out. Education is often coercive and based on monologues. Participatory Theater is democratic and based on dialogue. Pamoja Theatre is registered limited company incorporated with limited liability on 10th – October 2012 with the certificate number 156740. We are located at Namirembe Road Lions Building room 001.
